DIY: Maximize Your Potential - How to Live Healthy

Today's "How to" article courtesy of English-blog contributor Thoryn S.:

Healthy Life is Easy

Every year there is an increase in the people who get disease from such things as obesity or bad habits like smoking. People suffer because of the way they live their lives. There have been cures for some of these diseases but there is another safe way to prevent these diseases. Living healthy means staying away from bad habits, exercising, and eating all of the right things to improve your overall body health and life span . . .

. . . One main part of living healthy is eating healthy. Having a healthy diet gives the body everything it needs to grow and to have energy. There are foods that are good for the body and others that can hurt it. Good foods would be groups that contain proteins and vitamins. The basic food pyramid shows the daily servings of all the different groups that should be eaten. Any meats like pork, beef and chicken are the group that are high in protein. Other groups like fruit and vegetables give the body its nourishment of vitamins and minerals. Eating healthy also means a balance in how often people eat. Of course the recommended three times a day is the right choice for eating healthy. The best routine for eating is to eat a big breakfast, a small lunch and a medium size dinner. This routine allows food and calories to be burned off during the day. People who eat a lot right before they go to bed usually will gain weight. The other way people gain weight is by eating the wrong things. It is okay to have a couple of chips here and there but it is very bad to have a whole bag for lunch. Junk food can be eaten without weight gain through moderate eating and exercising regularly.

The next step to leading a healthy life is to exercise and keep the body in good shape. Everyone thinks exercise is something they cannot do because the are too busy or cannot make it to the gym. The best thing about exercise is that it can be done at anytime of the day and in the comfort of the person’s home. There is enough time for someone to do a set of sit ups and push ups before they jump in the shower the next morning. If not they can always do it right before they go to bed. There is really no excuse for someone not to set aside maybe twenty minutes of their day at the most to do something to improve their body. Exercise should be done on a regular basis to tone and keep the body in shape. This means that it should be done about two to three times a week for results. Another result of exercise is sleeping better to help the body replenish all the energy used. As the body sweats it produces more fluids cleaning out the system and making it fresh. The body will build and tone increasing immune systems like some vitamins do. When exercising it is always good to have a nutritional snack afterwards to give a little energy boost. The way the body feels and looks after exercising is a big confidence boost enough and makes you feel good. It makes the body feel and look young. Exercising and dieting are both important in living a healthy life but can all be negated by bad habits that people have.

Bad habits can be a variety of different things including smoking, drinking and drugs. These substances are bad for the body and can shorten a person’s lifespan by a considerable amount. Smoking blackens lungs and lowers the immune system leaving the body open to all kinds of colds and diseases. Long time use can lead to cancer and other disabilities. Smoker’s lungs are incapable of holding the same amount of air as a nonsmoker’s lungs can hold. Drinking also causes obesity depending on the amount and how often it is consumed. It also causes many diseases that deal with the liver and stomach. Drinking affects the whole body in a negative way by shutting down different parts of the brain. In more serious cases alcohol can shut down the body into a comatose state which can have fatal consequences. Another negative thing that can affect a person’s life span is the use of drugs. Drugs have some type of negative effect on the body to where it does not operate as it usually would. Some can even have fatal effects depending on the amount used. Other bad habits include laziness and eating habits. Laziness is a very common problem with people today. Everything is a luxury now that there is no reason for more work. The most common type of luxury is a car to get around in. Another related idea is the riding lawnmower. Games that involve sitting and watching the television for multiple hours is another luxury for the younger generation. Eating habits include people who gorge when the eat or people who do not eat at all. All of these habits have a negative effect on the body and should be avoided.

In conclusion, living a healthy life is something that everyone can do. It may take a little effort to buy the right foods and to start a new routine. There are many commercial plans and ways to start routines. The first step is actually making a move to do it and to keep doing it. Staying away from things that can have a negative effect on the body is also very important. By dieting, exercising and avoiding bad habits is a way to improve your body and lifespan.

Thoryn S.

Thoryn S. explains how to live a healthy lifestyle in his paper, Healthy Life is Easy. His thesis statement is, “Living healthy means staying away from bad habits, exercising, and eating all of the right things to improve your overall body health and life span.” In his essay he explains living a healthy lifestyle as a process. The body of his essay follows the thesis statement in order. He begins with explaining how to eat healthy and exercise to take care of the body. Then he explains what are good and bad habits to have to live healthy. He tells the reader the actions that need to be taken to live healthy. Thoryn gives good detailed information that was obviously researched.

Thoryn starts his body by talking about healthy food choices. He does a good job of explaining what foods will lead to a healthy lifestyle. He says, “There are foods that are good for the body and others that can hurt it.” Thoryn explains that food choices reflect on health choices. He is on task with his thesis statement and has good information on the subject.

Thoryn then goes on to talk about exercise. He explains the importance of exercise to keep the body healthy. He gives examples on easy ways to fit in exercise time into anyone’s day, as well as explaining why it is important. Thoryn gave good convincing detail in this paragraph.

He ends his paragraph on exercise by stating, “Exercising and dieting are both important in living a healthy life but can all be negated by bad habits that people have.” The next paragraph begins; “Bad habits can be a variety of different things including smoking, drinking and drugs.” I think he did a good job of order on this paper.

After talking about exercise and diet, Thoryn explains how it is necessary to stay away from bad health habits. He explains that even if you have a good diet and exercise plan, bad health habits can create bad health. In this paragraph he explains how bad choices and habits lead to bad health. He also gives good advice on how to avoid or break these habits.

In Thoryn’s conclusion, he explains that everyone can live a healthy lifestyle witch I think is a good way to motivate the reader. The paper showed easy ways to stick with this process of living healthy. His last sentences states, “By dieting, exercising and avoiding bad habits is a way to improve your body and lifespan.” I think this is a good way to end the paper. It includes his main idea. I think that mentioning lifespan will stick in the readers mind, making them think about their own lives and lifestyles.

Overall I think Thoryn wrote a good, motivational essay. I believe he explained this lifestyle as a process. He gave good examples and detail. I feel that he did a good amount of research on this subject. I think this will leave an impression on the reader.
